This is an
old outlet.
It is approximately 20 years old. Notice the cracks in the surrounding roof deck. Many roofers would try to re-use this old box, attempting to re-seal around it. |
|
At Clarence Smith Roofing,
we replace about 95% of all outlets we encounter. First, we cut out and remove the old outlet down to the wooden roof deck to allow for better drainage. |
|
We then set modified
rubber in the outlet area to prevent leakage caused by outlet overflow. A new COPPER outlet box is then installed in the outlet area. Copper outlets have been a standard at Clarence Smith Roofing since 1982. They are much more durable than aluminum outlets when exposed to heavy winter ice & snow. Many other roofers still use aluminum outlets; the savings between an aluminum & copper outlet being a mere $ 5.00. |
|
The gutter sheet for
your new roof is then installed over the new outlet. The outlet is then sealed with roofing cement & four-inch roofing fabric. A new ball guard screen is installed to prevent large objects from blocking the drain. The box is caulked on the outside to prevent further leakage caused by outlet overflow. A notch is made at the top of the outlet to allow water to drain out should ice or debris block the outlet. |
|
Finally, the entire roof
(including the outlet area) is coated with aluminum fibered coating. |
